IDEAScript for Analysts

This two-day course introduces experienced users to more advanced topics devoted to workflow automation with IDEAScript macros. IDEAScript, the IDEA programming language behind IDEAScript macros, is similar to and compatible with Visual Basic for Applications, the macro language used in Excel®, PowerPoint®, Word®, Access®, and other Microsoft Office® applications. Topics include recording a macro, IDEAScript environment, IDEAScript syntax, customizing macros, using the Language Browser, functions and subroutines, and more.

Prerequisite: Intermediate-level knowledge of Microsoft® Windows® desktop environment and Microsoft® Office® applications. Experience with CI101 course topics. Completion of CI101 and CI102 is recommended.

Additional Notes:

You will be working within a virtual computer lab; you do not need IDEA installed in order to attend.
The use of two monitor screens is strongly recommended during your training course.
This is a live, instructor-led course, and attendance is required throughout the session.
Your trainer will send your login information one week prior to the course.

IDEA® Data Analysis Level 2 is a hands-on, two-day course, ideal for those who have completed the IDEA Data Analysis Level 1 training or already have a solid understanding of IDEA platform functionality. This training will cover more advanced principles, such as creating complex equations or criteria, automating tasks, and connecting databases. Topics include, but are not limited to, advanced imports, data profiling with Benford’s Law, advanced extractions, connecting multiple databases, advanced @functions, custom functions, and introduction to automation using IDEA.

 

After completing this training, participants will be able to:

 

 

  • Handle difficult imports with greater confidence, speed and accuracy
  • Create advanced extractions and summarizations
  • Connect multiple databases to bring data together from different sources for analysis
  • Apply advanced @Functions to perform complex calculations and testing
  • Perform advanced data profiling using Benford’s Law
  • Automate processes/tasks by working with Visual Script and IDEAScripts

Advanced Sampling Techniques using IDEA® is a half-day, instructor-led training that walks students through case study where, as an analyst, you are hired to perform an independent evaluation of a company that intends to go public. In this case study style course, you will assess whether controls are working using statistical sampling including Monetary Unit Sampling (MUS), Attribute Sampling, and Classical Variable Sampling.

After completing this training, participants will be able to:

 

  • Concepts behind Monetary Unit Sampling (MUS) including planning, performing procedures and evaluating the sample results
  • Learn when MUS should be used and the factors affecting the size of a MUS sample
  • Understand the basic concepts behind Attribute Sampling including a discussion of deviation rates and confidence levels
  • Discussion of Beta and Alpha Risk
  • Statistical Sampling (Classical Variables Sampling) including confidence level, desired precision, and the expected proportion of errors
  • Walk through examples of each type of sampling using IDEA functionality

Introduction to IDEA is a half-day, hands-on workshop that will provide an in-depth overview of the data analysis functionality within the platform including: indexing, summarizing, joining, and filtering. Attendees will first import and perform data verification as well as basic analysis of a general ledger file. Then, an accounts receivable file will be aged and assessed against an AR credit limit file. Attendees will use IDEA to study the seasonality of sales for three company locations and use statistical models to identify trends, relationships between fields and project future values using three tasks: Correlation Analysis, Trend Analysis, and Time Series.

  • Profile data to provide a picture of past transactions in order to compare or predict the future
  • Summarize and/or append yearly sales files using multiple fields including location and year
  • Create a Time Series statistical analysis
